EURO 6 Emission Standard

EURO 6 Emission Standard

The EURO 6 standard is another European emission standard. Introduced after EURO 5, like it's predecessor it is still concerning the permissible emissions of harmful gases produced by internal combustion vehicles. In particular, it applies to emissions of particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen oxides (NOx). The directive applies to light passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, two-wheelres, three-wheelers and trucks.

It applies to vehicles manufactured after 2014 for the European market.

It refers specifically to nitrogen oxides. They have been significantly reduced in diesel cars to a concentration of 0.08 g/km.

EURO6 requirements for the amount of emissions burned:

  • CO 0,5
  • HC 0,05
  • NOX 0,08
  • HC + NOX 0,17
  • PM 0,0045In order to meet stringent emission requirements, manufacturers started installing diesel particulate filters (DPF) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems in the exhaust system.
  • CO - carbon monoxide, HC - hydrocarbons, NOx - nitrogen oxides, PM - particulate matter
